Project 1988-053-08
Hood River Production Program - Hatchery O&M
(Round Butte Hatchery - Pelton Ladder Extended Rearing Facilities)

Program Objectives:  ODFW, working in cooperation with PGE and the CTWSRO, at the PGE/CTWRO-owned Round Butte Hatchery and Pelton Ladder trap and rearing cell facilities, will rear up to 75,000, age 1 plus, Hood River and Deschutes River spring Chinook smolts and transfer to the Hood River Basin for release.  One complete hatchery cycle (from trapping of broodstock to release of smolts from that broodstock) is about 18 months long.  ODFW is responsible for all rearing while PGE does required maintenance at both Round Butte Hatchery and Pelton Ladder.

Work Plan Objectives:
The plan objectives are to initiate and complete the annual extended rearing activities in Pelton Ladder, identify and complete all O&M activities, continue routine hatchery operations (broodstock selection, spawning, incubation, rearing and disease control of spring Chinook fingerlings), initiate necessary facility upgrades and continue routine ancillary actions.  Work items are presented below.

Deliverables
- Produce and deliver ~75,000 spring Chinook smolts to the Moving Falls Fish Facility on the West Fork of the Hood River.

- Receive ~ 115,000 spring Chinook eyed eggs from Parkdale Hatchery (Hood River), rear ~82,000 fingerlings.  Some eggs may come from fish trapped at the Pelton Trap on the Deschutes if Hood River Program does not meet egg take goals.

- Reports need to be sent, either via e-mail or hard copy, whenever problems are encountered during the contract period (i.e.disease outbreaks or unexpected mortalities associated with hatchery fish).

- A brief summary report is due at the end of the contract period reporting the number of fish transferred to Pelton Ladder cells, the number of fish transferred to the Hood River, and the number of fish released into the Deschutes River.  Data from this report will be provided for use by ODFW in the annual report for the HRPP.  HRPP annual reporting occurs under ODFW's Trap O&M contract, which is part of project 1988-053-08.
